kansas city may not have many good sports teams, but they do have some badass chicks on skates. their roller derby teams are awesome, and so much fun to watch. thus, here are a few sketches.

here is something a little different than my usual. i usually draw a lot of crazy nonsense, referenced from life of course, but interpretted with my own imagination. however, here is a sketch straight for exactly what it is. on occassion i do this just just because it feels refreshing to draw something that feels more real, for lack of a better word. i also think that's why i am inspired by artists like Egon Schiele and Barron Storey, even though my work looks nothing like theirs.

last week was sooooooo cold...like in the teens cold. this weekend it finally got "warmer", i never thought i would be so happy just to see temperatures in the 40-50's.

tiger rider

this has been sitting on my desktop for over a month, so i thought i would finally post it. an aquabats piece inspired by a song off their album charge! made for you in flash's vectory goodness...unless of course you prefer the quick and dirty pencil on paper version.

a few memory sketches. i have been running into a lot of interesting, odd, and fun looking people when i am out walking my dog. thus i decided to start doing some memory sketches of some of them. i think i drew them more interesting from my memory than i would have if i was drawing them from life.

chain gang? or a game of follow the leader? i'm not sure which one it is yet to tell the truth. i had this idea for a while and just never put it on paper until now. with this piece i wanted to see how fast i could paint with vectors, before this i was very specific with tracing my drawings. however i think i like the final output here better because the final piece doesn't look as sterile, or precise as many vector drawings do. that said there were still some areas where i did go back and put in the specific shapes i had drawn.

a little bit about my process on this one... along with a few images to help explain it. my initial drawing(see bottom image) was too crowded, too even, kinda boring, etc. etc. thus i turned to photoshop to help me out, where i shrunk the characters within the scene, added a few foreground elements, and stretched the canvas by 25%(a trick learned from barron storey). then i took it into flash and painted it up quick in a flat vector style similar to that of pascal campion (check out his work it's awesome).

i was working in flash when i became distracted, next thing i knew i had created the most sugary sweet array of mystical vectors the world has ever seen... oh, and a few drawings too.

the kansas city humane society art auction was on friday(the 24th) and i am super happy that my work alone raised about $500. i submitted 3 pieces one seen here (which is tiny 5x5 in) along with the dog lunchbox, pictured a few posts back. the 3rd was supposed to be last years submission and it can be seen in a very old post(aug 2006) it is the kids with their pets, painted on wood.

back to the mythological creatures; the cerberus is a giant 3-headed dog, as you may also remember from harry potter. i however think a 3-headed dog would make a really cool pet. enjoy.

greek mythology has a few boars listed(calydonian,erymanthian) so i thought i would just draw a page full of boars and let you pick and choose between them.
